PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION

Pre-purchase inspections can be tailored to the needs of the prospective purchaser. The pre-purchase inspection is organized into three levels.

LEVEL 1 : $100.00

The car is road tested and the handling of the car (in terms of steering wheel alignment or pulling or strange handling behavior which would indicate serious mechanical problems or previous accident damage), braking or shifting of the transmission are closely looked at to evaluate potential problems and subsequent repair costs. Clutch engagement will indicate projected remaining life of the clutch. Next, functionality of the electrical items are reveiwed in order to estimate the cost of repair to pass the vehicle through Maryland Vehicle Inspection or to just restore the car to new condition. The oil pressure gauge is checked , when applicable, to determine main bearing wear; and the volt gauge is checked when applicable, to determine charging rate of the alternator.

LEVEL 2 : (LEVEL 1 PLUS THE FOLLOWING) $200.00

The body and paint are examined. The suspension cambers are measured in order to determine if the car had been in a major collision which could mean future extensive repairs. A check for rust is performed on the major suspension points. A check for major leaks from the engine and transmission is performed. An oscilloscope check of the secondary patterns and the shorting and cranking screens (when applicable) are done to monitor more closely the condition of the engine.

      LEVEL 3: (LEVEL 1 & 2 AND THE FOLLOWING) $500.00-$800.00

Level 3 is an extremely detailed check and is recommended for those cars whose cost would necessitate a thorough evaluation of the car to verify the net worth of the car, and to itemize in detail present and future repairs that must be performed and past repairs that had been done. The exact price of Level 3 Pre-Purchase Inspection is dependent on the time required to perform the exam.

                                                                             EXCLUSIONS

Compression and Leakdown for 964's and later are obviously extra because of the very large amount of time and in some cases broken exhaust fasteners that will be incurred in performing these tests.

This deoes not apply to the water cooled 911's . The compression and leakdown test are very time consuming and therefore very expensive. I usually spend a lot of time on the PIWIS extracting information not easily available.
